Professional Working Relationships

Our Washington County Commissioners Court has the fiduciary responsibility to make decisions for each county entity and the Sheriff’s Office is no exception. The Commissioners and the County Judge rely on information provided to them by the heads of each county entity so that decisions can be made regarding expenditures, budget, staffing, and salaries. It is important that they receive the most accurate and transparent information in order for them to make decisions as to where your tax dollars go.

As your Sheriff, I will provide them with relevant data, vetted information, and analytical products to support requests and welcome accountability for the expenditure of funds while working hard to identify areas where cost cutting measures can be initiated.

Throughout my career with the Texas Department of Public Safety, and as your Precinct 2 Constable, one thing has remained constant: more can be accomplished when agencies work together and the public is better served as a result.

My experience with working in a collaborative environment include:

  • Governor’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit
  • Project Find-Me

  • Golden Triangle Fraud Task Force

  • FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force

  • Texas Joint Crime Information Center

  • State Operations Center

  • District Disaster Committee

  • Houston Area Bomb Council

  • Border Security Operations Center

  • Border Security Command Post

  • Gulf Coast Violent Offender and Fugitive Task Force

  • Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force

  • Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force

  • Montgomery County Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition

  • Domestic Marijuana Eradication Task Force

  • FBI Safe Streets Task Force

  • Texas Anti-Gang Center

  • ATF Crime Gun Strike Force

  • Brazos Valley Council of Governments Homeland Security Advisory Committee

  • Brazos Valley Child Abduction Response Team

  • Brazos Valley Human Trafficking Task Force

  • Washington County Emergency Response Committee

As your Sheriff, I will continue to use my collaborative skills to foster working relationships with our Local, County, State, and Federal partners for the benefit of Washington County.

As our county continues to grow we will be met with the influx of criminal street gangs and drug traffickers who choose to establish their criminal enterprise here or commit transient crimes. Both of which will have an adverse impact on our quality of life and neither of which I am willing to accept. I have extensive experience in gang and drug investigations, and have seen the benefit of a robust gang intelligence program work hand-in-hand with a drug enforcement program to keep schools, communities, and businesses safer. We have the opportunity to get out in front of these criminal enterprises by teaming with our City, County, State, and Federal law enforcement counterparts to make Washington County unattractive to the criminal element.

The best approach in promoting public safety and keeping a community safe is through preventative measures that actively engage a positive police and community relationship. However, sometimes unthinkable events can happen in a rural community like ours that require a coordinated law enforcement response involving different agencies. That coordinated response requires advanced planning, training, sharing of resources, and agreements between the agency heads. The public needs to be secure in knowing that their law enforcement officers are ready to mobilize as a unified front to face any threats to our homeland.

As your Sheriff, I will partner with the law enforcement agencies in the county to develop a special mobilization unit that has continuity of training, planning, resource availability, and agreements in place for personnel assignment and availability.
